Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry

The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry at the University of Connecticut, Storrs is featured on The Museum Insider. This one-hour, on-location program covers The Legacy of B in BIMP exhibit highlighting Frank Ballard’s puppetry career, and the Puppet Arts Program founded by Ballard in 1962. It includes interviews with Frank Ballard, museum curator and professor emeritus, and Bart Roccoberton, Jr., current director of the Puppet Arts Program, and appearances by puppetry students and professional puppeteers.

Springfield Library and Museums
at the Quadrangle

On-location program highlights the library and four museums at the Quadrangle (George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Connecticut Valley Historical Museum, and Springfield Science Museum). The emphasis is on the science museum and how the library/museum complex serves as a community and educational center.

 

         
 
   

Hicks-Stearns Museum

The Museum Insider studio program on the Tolland Historical Society and Hicks-Stearns Family Museum. Three generations of the Hicks family lived in this house. It was built as an inn during the 1700s and altered during the Victorian Period to meet changing styles and family needs. The museum is filled with Hicks family items including childrens games and toys, and kitchen, parlor and bedroom furnishings.

 

Huntington Homestead

The Museum Insider studio program focuses on a field school in architectural research and building archaeology. Preservation and restoration specialists from New England and other regions served as consultants at the Huntington House. The field segment shows paint analysis, architectural drawing, mapping and photography, and archaeological excavation techniques inside the structure.
